Trees are Your Friends



Trees make an invaluable contribution to a picture. It might be an unusual tree standing alone or a group of trees. In autumn the array of colour arranged perfectly by nature into a ready-made photograph. A tree can also be the anchor point in a photograph of the sun setting. The range is endless.

Upon returning from visiting the dunes in the desert, I came across this solitary tree, (Fig 1). The African summer had just ended, the green vegetation around it is green because on certain mornings, depending on weather conditions, a mist from the sea invades the desert and the vegetation gets enough moisture to survive in this harsh environment.

In addition to their aesthetic appeal, trees are an excellent means of bringing an awareness of scale to a picture by creating a feeling of depth and distance.
