Mountain-Light
Originally from Portugal, I have been a photographer since 1985. I obtained a qualification with the British Institute of professional photographers, LBIPP in portraiture.
I went to America to receive further training in portraiture. My instructor was the master photographer Monte Zucker famous for his classic photography - his precision lighting technique was without equal. I run a wedding and portrait business but in the last few years my love for photography has extended to nature and wildlife. I have had many opportunities together with my wife to travel and photograph wildlife. To be in a mountain environment and photographing in reasonable safety meant that we had to take a qualification as mountain leaders. The two skills complement each other. Walking up a mountain in safety with a full pack of camping and photo equipment is a challenge. The real adventure starts when searching and waiting for the best light, untold number of journeys haven't produced one single worthwhile shot. Low cloud, a sudden thunderstorm, falling into mountain rivers and more, has been the excuse. My work is not a literal record of actuality. I employ numerous controls to create an image that represents the equal of what I saw and felt.
